Where we are

We are based in Livorno Italy next door to the Enel Experimental Facility at the port. Our nearest airport is Pisa, 15 km or twenty minutes’ drive away, and we are 10 minutes’ from the centre of Livorno itself.

How to get to us

The IFRF Operations centre may be reached:

By air:

Regardless of which Italian airport you arrive at (the nearest to us is Pisa’s Aeroporto Galileo Galilei) you should plan to head either to Pisa Airport or Pisa Railway Station to hire a car or taxi to reach the IFRF offices. Pisa station is a five minute train or bus ride from the airport.

By rail:

If you are arriving by train, the easiest is to head for Livorno Station and take Bus no. 1 or 1R (every 10 minutes) to Piazza Grande. Then call one of us to come and fetch you or take Bus no. 5 from Piazza Grande to Via delle Cateratte which is a parallel of Via Salvatore Orlando and a short walk from the office. If you decide to head for Pisa station, proceed by hire car or taxi from there.

By car:

1. From Pisa Airport/centre on the SS1 Aurelia Take the direction Livorno Aurelia which will put you on Via Aurelia. Proceed for about 10km and then take the exit Tirrenia Porto. At this point you will be on the main Fi-Pi-Li artery which links Livorno with Florence (see the rest of the directions in point 2 below).
2. From Florence on the Fi-Pi-Li highway From the Fi-Pi-Li take the Livorno Centro/ Porto exit. (NB not the Livorno Centro exit which comes first.) Follow the main road (via Leonardo da Vinci) for about 1.5km, bearing right to move directly into via Salvatore Orlando. After about 800m you will pass the Marzocco Enel Power Station on the right, and shortly afterwards you will see the signboards for Enel Ricerca and for the IFRF, also on the right.
3. From the A 12 toll road From the toll road take the Livorno exit. About 2 km after the pay booth, take the exit marked Firenze Livorno Porto, drive for about 1,3 km and then follow the direction for Livorno Porto. At this stage you will find yourself on the Fi-Pi-Li highway and the route from here is described in 2.) above.
